EYES, THE WINDOWS TO THE SOUL

Somehow, I am extremely fascinated by eyes. Ever since I was a child, I loved looking at people's eyes, trying to read what they actually want to say.......what they truly want to say.

I am really thankful to my grandpa because he gave me really beautiful eyes. Its not everyday that a Bengali girl is born with hazel eyes. Maybe this is why eyes attract me a lot. Trapped between the real and the intellectual world, the eyes say so much.

The "Afghan Girl" by Steve McCurry became popular worldwide, because of the intense look in the girl's eye. There was so much fire and pain in her eyes and yet a desire to be born. Its absolutely incredible.

Another portrait of an Afghan girl playing with her doll. Don't know the photographer but her eyes are incredible. Why are Afghans so beautiful!

Afghan refugee girl, laiba Hazrat, 6, poses for a picture

Refugees are always the best subject for photography. They go through hell on earth and still live as a human. I closely know someone who also fled Afghanistan in times of war and now by God's grace is living well. His eyes were the first thing I noticed. Its looks so humble and innocent at first but when you look closer, it is entwined with memories and passion. There is a desire to grow, to be strong again, to rise again. Insha Allah I'm sure he will.

In these troubled times, hope is what keeps us alive. In other words "umeed". This is what refugees live for. This is what we all live for.

If our eyes could see souls instead of bodies, the world would be a very different place. We would fall in love over and over again. We would see beauty in truth. We would live for passion and die for peace.

That's something to think about!
